Character Name: Riku
Canon: Kingdom Hearts
Canon History: have fun with the kingdomed hearts!

Canon Personality:
Competitive
From early childhood, Riku has had an incredible competitive streak. Gifted with natural athleticism, he’s always been known to throw his weight around a little, accepting and issuing any challenges thrown his way with the swagger of someone so sure he would never lose. And while he has lost now - both to himself and to Sora, who he always thought he would beat no matter what - that doesn’t mean this competitive side of him is completely dead and buried. Despite his determination to leave this side of him behind, he can’t help the little bits of sass and challenging nature that slip out every now and then.

Curious
Both Riku’s biggest flaw and greatest strength- he’s curious to a fault. He’s always wondering what else is out there, not only in his immediate vicinity, but in the wider world, in other worlds. This curiosity is what drives him to keep going with his journey, despite his mistakes, and it’s what has led to the mistakes he’s already made. He’s learned to be more careful with this curiosity, but it’s a beast so strong that it led to the ruin of his own world.

Easily Jealous
Another of Riku’s biggest flaws is his jealousy. It has taken some honest effort and a lot of hard work to get his jealousy under check since it ran rampant after the fall of Destiny Islands, but it does still exist in a constant battle within Riku. In the past, this jealousy led Riku to believe that Sora had completely ditched him for new friends, falling victim to manipulation and his own frantic anger in feeling left behind and replaced by the friend he’d had since he could remember.

Conflicted
There’s always a delicate balance inside of Riku, his guilt, trauma, and determination constantly fighting against his stubbornness, pettiness, and jealousy. This clash of emotions is as potent as the Light and Dark inside of his heart, and they’re something he has learned to walk with every day of his life. He’s always risking making mistakes, so he makes sure to take things slowly and carefully, now. Or, well, as carefully and slowly as he can until his own impatience and desperate drive to protect the people he cares about throws all the good and bad out of the window.

Awkward
When it comes to talking to people outside of his immediate friend circle, Riku is… awkward. At best. Being so focused on the state of the worlds and helping his friends has atrophied a lot of the confident swagger Riku had as a younger teenager. And, you know, realizing he was easily manipulated into being a villain didn’t really help, either. Because of his past experiences, Riku is pretty in his own head most of the time, leaving him unsure of what to say in even the simplest of situations. For example, after rescuing Shiki from Heartless in Dream Drop Distance, Riku responds to her heartfelt thanks with a simple “sure” and, when called out for that, comes right out with “I’m bad at this.” He just… really doesn’t know how to interact with people normally, anymore.

AU Name: Riku Sekido
AU Age: 18
AU Birthday: 11/11
Faction: POKEGO

AU History: Riku was born and raised on the beaches of Hawaii to two very absent, very rich parents. Despite his family’s wealth, he was most commonly found either getting into a fight with other kids his age or taking on waves way too big for him while surfing. In fact, getting that kid to actually go to school or, well, go home was nearly impossible. His parents were always traveling, he never really got along with his younger brother all that well, and the only authority figure was an uncle he absolutely hated.

But this wild side to him wasn’t exactly coming out of nowhere. See, Riku started remembering his past life when he was very little - when he was just five years old, actually. He was playing with some of the local kids and exploring the island a little when he got separated, finding himself in a small seaside cave, staring at a smooth expanse of stone and remembering a time when the walls of a cave much like this had been covered in etched drawings, when a man in a long cloak whispered in his ear about other worlds, when the stone in front of him wasn’t stone at all, but a door that led to the heart of the world.

From then on, Riku found his memories coming back in little bursts. He remembers playing on the beach with another set of friends, traveling to different worlds, holding metal in his hand and feeling it thrum with magic and power. Even after exploring these memories and trying to trigger more of them over the years, Riku can’t recall specifics about his own past, only the pang of crushing guilt and exhaustion, as well as a deep-seated knowledge that he has to - has to - help. What he has remembered, during his time with POKEGO, is details about his world and the dangers lurking there. Almost as if knowing what to fight and how to fight it was infinitely more important than the details of the memories fueling those emotions.

Almost as if memory is something Riku is more than used to working with.

Recruited into the POKEPUP program due to the early age he recalled his memories and started showing affinity to shadow magic, Riku used the organization’s existence as an excuse to keep avoiding being at home, going straight from school to POKEGO’s headquarters, bullying his way into as many (safe) missions as he could over the eight years he was with them. In fact, it was on one of those missions that Riku found an injured Noibat in the spirit world and, after nursing it back to health over the course of that outing, he found himself with a new best friend.

Now, recently graduated into POKEGO proper, after hearing about the uh…. Various Mishaps™ that happened in Kaisou, Riku has packed up everything he owns and has jumped ship to Kaisou, hoping that being at the heart of strangeness might help trigger the rest of his memories, as well as ease that feeling that’s been nagging at the back of his mind that he’s meant to do something more with his life than sit in a fancy house and surf. As much as he really does like to surf.

AU Personality Differences: Riku’s guilt complex is a little less-defined in this life, though the early age at which his past memories started to bleed through has led to some confusion, in that regard. Overall, he doesn’t have the gnawing guilt that comes from, you know, betraying your friends and dooming your world and many others to outright destruction, though what little Riku does remember from those times has helped curb his more asshole-ish tendencies, through his teenage years.

However, because his own mistakes haven’t hit him in the back of the head with a 2x4, Riku’s competitive side is still fully in-tact in this life, leading him to have a bit of a proud streak when it comes to things he knows he’s good at, as well as being unable to resist picking fights with the people who manage to push his buttons just right.
